embroidered covered buttons
March 19, 2014
These cute covered buttons are all over Etsy, but you can make your own in a snap. Here's how:
You need one covered button kit per button size.
It includes buttons, shanks, mold, pusher and pattern.
If you need more buttons you will just buy the buttons and shanks.
|
Using the correct size circle pattern, cut embroidered piece and place on mold with button on top. |
Push it down into the mold. |
Fold the fabric over the button and place shank on top. |
Put the pusher on top and with a hammer gently tap all around to push the shank into the button top. |
Before you pop the button out of the mold, make sure the shank is in good and tight. |
That's it! You're done!
I see so many beautiful uses for these buttons.
At Knitionary HQ they will go on knitted sweaters,
but I think they would be sweet for a little girl's Easter dress,
or even making jewelry and other crafts.
or even making jewelry and other crafts.
I think Grandmother would approve!
You can purchase the Dritz covered button kit online at Joann's.

Thank you! Lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I was going to comment to you in general that I so enjoy your blog. It is varied and fun. Plus, I think what is most enjoyable for me is that you always have such a lovely and positive attitude. I have read some other blogs where they are so downbeat and negative. Yours never is, even when you have shared, ever so gently and appropriately, a sadness or disappointment in your life.
Thank you!
Thank you. This made my day.
DeleteI LOVE THESE! I have used old embroidered pieces in the past to make a crazy quilt vest or pillow, but I never considered covering buttons with them. These buttons would be the perfect addition to handknit cardigan. Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Thanks for the empowering! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, hello, aren't these adorable!!
ReplyDeleteClever idea! I was thinking the same thing, that these colors would be great for Easter. They can also be pinned to a pocketbook or jacket for daily use!
