There is nothing more summery than a summer squash fritter. I make them when the squash is prolific, so that means all summer, and always make a big batch so I'll have plenty leftover. These are wonderful hot off the skillet, but equally as good reheated, plus they freeze beautifully. I've been making these for decades and the recipe could not be easier. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as my family does.

It's not too early to share a Christmas craft, is it? When everyone else in the northern hemisphere is savoring these last weeks of summer, we crafters are doing that too, yes of course, but little thoughts of Christmas knits have begun to swirl around in our heads. And while we may not have begun the actual Christmas crafting, we are at least thinking about it. Unless you are me, then you have begun. I honestly couldn't wait a second longer because these funny little old men just stole my heart.
My fun project is the Christmas Gnomes from Jimmy Beans. The pattern until recently was only available as a kit, but now it can be purchased as a pattern-only on Ravelry. That was perfect for me because I had a stash of furry pom poms in beardy colors, plenty of yarn to chose from, and also (big surprise!) had some wooden beads that would be perfect for the bulbous noses. Aren't they cute? In December they will come along with me to a gal's luncheon to be little party gifts. I have put together a kit for you, so read on to see how you can win it.

Oh. My. The tomatoes! This has been a great tomato year!
I picked 5 buckets of tomatoes a few days ago and filled 4 roasters to the brim, including my enormous turkey roaster, and made 12 quarts of tomato sauce. It was really too much work to process that much in one day and I vowed to never get so behind in my sauce making again. I set aside the most beautiful tomatoes, below, for slicing and sharing.

Hello friends! A few weeks ago my neighbor offered up her plum tree for me to pick as many as I wanted and then last week we went berry picking. There was a lot of jam making and pie making around here and I'd like to share with you just how I did my marathon cooking and reveal all my pie and jam making secrets!
