Professor Fungi and other springy things

May 10, 2025

I don't about where you live, but springtime in my garden means that the most peculiar little crops of mushrooms pop up seemingly everywhere, however THIS fungi grew from my knitting needles. The project was a mystery Knit Along and is my first mystery ever. For those who don't know, mystery KALs are very popular in the knitting community. I had never joined one before because I think I'm too controlling and want to know exactly what the finished product looks like before I start. I really walked on the wild side this time! Over a thousand knitters joined in and it was a very chatty group. It was fun and I'm happy with my little Professor Fungi.

Prof. Fungi is right at home with his friend Gnathan. After these photos were taken I packed them both up and now won't see them again until Christmas. This mystery KAL worked like this: every few days you get "clues" to knit. Below are the clues in order. The final clue was the red hat. It was certainly a very fun and whimsical little project. The pattern is up for sale now and was very fun to make.

The pattern from Sarah Shira of Imagined Landscapes

On my chores list last week, make the greenhouse sparkle!

From my neighbor.

I took the pups to the shelter yesterday to be neutered and then adopted and to say we are sad is beyond the beyond. I wept all the way home and even though they were only here 2 weeks, the house feels much too empty and quiet and it's difficult to remember life without them. I dreamed about them all night. I talked to the shelter this morning and the pups did well and are recovering nicely. She thinks that they will be adopted today or tomorrow as they are highly adoptable. Well that certainly makes me feel better.

Happy Mother's Day to all the mamas, grandmamas and maternal loving supporters everywhere! Carter will celebrate with us today and since it is lovely and warm, I had the outstanding idea of going to the club and meeting up with my son and grandson after their Saturday sports morning. Both my husband and I have terrific colds, his is on the way out, mine is just settling in. They can swim and I can rest and knit and then we can all dine outdoors. I thought my idea was brilliant! I don't think my cough and me will be terribly welcome out in public, but maybe segregated outdoors will be ok?

Take care. xo Kristen
