wishin' and hopin'
February 15, 2024I've gathered all my yarn and patterns for 2024 together and here's the lineup. All 15 of them. Gulp.

Unbearable is getting a lot of attention right now because we are going to Alaska in May and it will be cold and there will be bears, so I must wear an Unbearable Hoodie with bears in hats. I'm using some stash terra cotta Brooklyn Tweed Arbor and white Rowan Alpaca Soft DK also in stash with some newly purchased Arbor in Humpback. Super fun pattern from Les Garsons. The charcoal yarn just arrived yesterday so I will get cracking on it tonight. Fifteen may sound ambitious, but I think I can do it. Let me show you the rest! |

| Also getting attention is the Basic V Neck Pullover. I'm making mine in super soft Rowan Cotton Wool. I JUMPED on this pattern the day it was published and this is why you need it too: It comes in multiple adult sizes and the pattern is written for FOUR weights: fingering, DK, worsted and bulky. Such a nice pattern to have on hand in the pattern library and I think that V necks are just all around flattering. I would like to have it finished by May because I think it will be a nice sweater to wear in the evenings on the ship. |

| I've had the Simple Yoke Cardigan pattern and a cone of Brooklyn Tweed Peerie, now discontinued, for ages and am in no hurry to knit it. In fact I'm giving myself an entire year with a deadline of Valentine's Day, 2025. FYI, I went to a Galentine's Day party last night, Feb. 13, just gals, champagne and a few nibbles and lots and lots of chatter. So fun! |

| I've had this Swan's Island DK for many many years and was looking for the most perfect top-down-in-the-round cable sweater and this is it! No deadline, but I'd love to wear it next winter. The yarn appears to be discontinued. Too bad because it's gorgeous. Tsubaki by Hiroku Fukatsi. |

| I'm on a bit of a color-work kick right now and when adorable Isabell Kraemer had a sale I might have bought a few too many of her colorwork patterns. I also bought Moordale when Rowan had a big sale and it seems like lovely yarn. No start date. No deadline. Just whenever. Pinia by Isabell Kraemer. |

| Caitlin Hunter has enchanting patterns and I love Halu. I will make it more fitted with a closer neck, use this pale aqua cotton and knit it with 3/4 sleeves to make is summery. I'll start this in May-ish so I can wear it by summer-ish. Cascade Yarns Nifty Cotton is a new to me yarn; it feels lovely and the color is gorgeous. |

| Starry Starry Night is on hold right now. I had to rip out about 8 inches because the stitch count made it too big and blousy. I took it back to the last decrease and have to think about what to do now and really don't want to give it any more brain cells at this time. I packed it up and will look at it again at the end of summer. The yarn is wonderful, Merino by Knitting For Olive in Dusty Moose and Cream. It's super soft next to the skin. |

| I got cracking on this easy and fast pattern two days ago while I was waiting for my Unbearable Hoodie yarn to arrive. So now I'll have to put this aside until May, but I do want to wear it this summer. I've knit the pattern Seacoast three times in cotton and it's my favorite summer sweater pattern ever. Last month when I knit the dishcloths out of Knit Picks Dishie, I was so surprised at how very nice this bargain priced cotton was, so I ordered a sweaters worth to give it a try on a garment. Folks, so far so good. Really, it's kinda great. I'll be sure to let you know how I like it after I knit it, wear it, wash it, and wash it again, If this is a great cotton yarn, it will be the bargain of the knitiverse. | This is my church knit. I call it that because I do knit it in church, but also at the movies, in the car, in line, in the waiting room, and everywhere. It lives at the bottom of my purse. It's just knit round and round and round so I don't have to look at it ever. I bought the yarn to give it a try and I love it. Knitting For Olive Merino is fingering weight and comes in so many gorgeous colors and is next to the skin soft, even soft next to my overly sensitive neck! | More colorwork here with another Caitlin Hunter pattern and with whom I have a bit of a crush on. I think Caitlin was having a sale and since I'm on a colorwork crush AND I already had some of the yarn in my stash and only had to spring for the white--well, this was meant to be! | I am closing in on my last two scrappy blankets and then folks, no more scraps and no more blankets. Going forward I'm donating (almost all of) my project leftovers. This represents the last of my lovely Rowan Kid Classic, three colors, and is going to have big chunky color block stripes. Absolutely and positively no deadline on this baby. It's a good movie knit but it's a lot bigger now so it just depends on if I want to haul it around with me. I never knit on it at home. |

| Another. Scrappy. Blanket. Oh my. And this baby is a behemoth. I'm using fingering doubled, plus DK and worsted weight in every shade of black and white that's been lingering in my stash, and while it's very beautiful, it's also extremely heavy and monstrous. No deadline, but when it's done I may crack open a bottle of bubbly. Sweet As Honey. |

| Another one I'd love to have done by December 2024 is the popular Festive Pullover by Skeindeer Knits. I've ordered the yarn, Baby Cashmerino, and will put this on priority after summer. |

| Lastly, I have a preview knit coming up for Brooklyn Tweed for a pattern that will be published in May. I don't have the pattern or yarn yet, but I'll be using this bulky weight Quarry and I think it will be a fairly quick knit. This will also be great to wear while in Alaska so I'm excited about this one too. When the yarn arrives I'll put everything aside and work on it. I'm excited to use Quarry, it's similar to Loft and Shelter, just bulkier. |

| Hope you had a happy Valentine's Day! A funny story--out of the window I spied the delivery man taking a picture of the camellia heart. He also walked away smiling. 💕 Also, BIG NEWS! My husband got a hole-in-one yesterday, on Valentine's Day. The tradition is that the club has to buy everyone a drink when someone gets a hole in one and it was super busy yesterday because of Valentine's Day--so many free drinks were handed out and my husband was a bit of a celebrity. I was up there at the time with my knitting group and we heard that someone got a hole-in-one, and I thought to myself, hmm, my husband is playing today, I wonder if he knows him? A half hour later my husband and his buddies walked into our knitting room and announced it was him! We all cheered and I gave him a big fat hug! |

I hope you are on Ravelry as that is the best way to look for scrappy projects. Use the search feature under patterns and you'll find lots of good ideas.
I need to tell you this. I made sugar cookies and then a Levain knockoff cookie and my 42 year old son said, these are good but nothing like those Cowboy cookies with the corn flakes. Just wanted to let you know they are such a hit in my family. Even the 4 year old neighbor boys come by and ask if I have made cookies because they know I keep the dough in freezer. You are famous.

DeleteHi Kristen! Elizabeth from Texas here. I just wanted to let you know how I used up the yarn you sent last year. I made a bunch of Sophie scarves with the baby cotton and shawls with the rest. I had plans to continue using my stash this year and finish WIPs but on January 28th I took a tumble in the house and landed on my left wrist! I'm a week past surgery and will be out of commission for awhile. I am more upset about not being able to knit! The doc said it will be good rehab for me when he gives the all clear. in the meantime, I'll enjoy watching your progress and adding to my Ravelry queue. Happy Knitting, Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteHi Elizabeth. I'm so sorry to hear about your wrist surgery. I think your hand must be wrapped up immobilized right now. I went through the same thing a dozen years ago--I had two surgeries back to back on my hand to get rid of an infection left by a prick from a rose thorn when I was gardening! Anyway, my hand was wrapped up for a month and when they took it off I could not bend my fingers even a fraction of an inch! It took almost two months of PT before I got full mobility and strength. It took a lot of work and if that is your case, DO take the time to do you PT every hour every day, whatever they say. I think I remember them saying I had a small window in which I could get it back. But the good news is this: the doctor told me to knit! As soon as the wrap was off he wanted me to knit as much as I could stand! LOL. My dear, I wish you the best of luck. Hang in there.

DeleteHi there, Kristin - when did you post this? I’m usually the first Commenter! So much to say - envy your trip to Alaska. Only recently got the Alaska bug (rooted no doubt in Northern Exposure). Thank you so much for the v-neck sweater pattern. She has a v-neck vest, too, which I have been looking for. I will have to make this cowboy cookies. Think I already saved the recipe for. My husband already bought his quota of Girl Scout cookies. He did not make a hole-in-one (although I think he is capable) but watches the Golf channel avidly. Will have to check our that new Cascade cotton. So good for kids! More, but I forgot. Maybe later. Thanks for all those tips! Chloe
ReplyDeleteHave you been to Alaska yet? It's such an easy trip to take when you go on a ship! I know not everyone likes cruises because they think that you can't get any exercise and all you do is eat, but that is not the case for most, and certainly not for us. We've now gone on about 8 cruises if you can believe it, so obviously we love them. Maybe when I get back I'll write a little post on how to get the most out of a cruise, and how it's not difficult to keep the pounds off.
DeleteThe Cowboy Cookies are def better than GS Cookies, but then there's nothing like a Thin Mint or a DoSiDo and they are delivered to your door by a smiling, excited little girl, and that can't be beat.
I think a hole-in-one is one of those things that if you play golf long enough and often enough, it's going to happen, and this is his second one. He left to play this morning and wondered aloud if he'd get another one today (with a grin on his face). It was just so funny it happened on Valentine's Day when hundreds of people were up there! I'm sorry we didn't eat there that night, we stayed home and had leftover stew, so boring for what is supposed to be a romantic evening, but we hate to fight crowds. Too bad we didn't because I'm sure he would have been toasted a dozen times!
