The tree hugger pictures were taken against our ancient olive tree. The other pictures were taken on our grandson's paint table that sits in the shade underneath the olive tree. My son found it and two matching chairs on the side of the road and it's the most useful piece of junk we've ever salvaged. We lavishly and carelessly create our paint projects on it, and Carter and Papa have lunch and snacks there too. I also make flower arrangements on it and the cuttings go right into the compost pile so there's no mess in the kitchen. In the garden I'm still eeking out some flowers, mostly zinnias and dahlias, and they look pretty ratty up close. They'll stay a while longer because the bees and butterflies are still busy with them. In the greenhouse I have a new addition of amaryllises. My friend separated his bulbs and gave me 14 babies but he thinks they might not bloom this year, but next year they will for sure. I planted them in recycled black plastic pots to help keep the roots warm this winter and my plan is to ignore them for a year except to water them once a week.
I found a new nail polish to obsess over--Olive and June. I have seen it at my Target and Walgreens, but the best selection is on their website. My favorite fall neutrals are Lilac Shimmer, Can I Borrow A Sweater, Prairie, Fig Ranch and Sundance Shimmer. The polish is easy to apply and lasts a good week on me if I use a primer and top coat. Love, love Olive and June. I discovered them about 18 months ago and my nails/hands have never looked better. And their cuticle serum is a game changer. Your mitts look so fun! When do you wear them?
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know about their cuticle serum. Mine are dry and all I needed was a recommendation to buy it! As for the mitts, I think I'll wear them when I'm driving and it's too cold to touch the steering wheel, and when I'm on a walk. I hope I get some wear out of then!
DeleteI just started the same mitts in the same yarn! Love when the color changes, it keeps me going. I started using Olive and June about a year ago. They had a big Black Friday sale and I ordered a kit. The polish really lasts a while on my nails unlike others I had tried. Winters are really tough on my hands, but I have good luck with CeraVe Therapeutic Hand Cream. No smell, blends in well and not greasy!
ReplyDeleteOh good to know! I'm curious to know how much you use. I was surprised that I used a little less than half and sure hope it's enough leftover to make a hat. We're fans of CeraVe too. Our doctor recommended it!
DeleteI love the gloves, but I would need the fingers. My fingers are the first things that get cold when walking in cold weather. You have probably finished the hat by now!
ReplyDeleteMy fingers get cold too! I just know I'll never make all the fiddly fingers for a mitten. I hope I think they are worth it, but maybe they will just be some sort of fashion statement instead of super practical!
DeleteJust bought what appeared to be the last of their Burberry yarn! Perfect for travelling and my daughter looks good in those colors. She might get a kick out of being reminded of her preppy high school days. Quite a ways away from that now! Chloe
ReplyDeleteOh good! I saw she was low in stock but I think it's one of those colors that she keeps in stock regularly. Wouldn't you love to watch her dye it? I'll bet your daughter will love them, who doesn't love the classics? Such a nice gift.
DeleteI have several pairs of dollar craft gloves Michael’s in black. My intention for long walks is to put those on first and slide any fingerless gloves i have over this. Might as well give the Starbucks staff - where I occasionally end up - a little conversation starter. Chloe
ReplyDeleteKristen, please let us know if you have enough for a hat, and what pattern you used. Sounds like a bunch of us bought the yarn after your post! Great idea to wear the mitts over those thin gloves. Thanks!
