On the needles for fall

September 15, 2022

The countdown for fall has finally begun. This morning I met a friend for coffee downtown and it was actually beautifully breezy and chilly, and even better, our forecast calls for rain starting on Sunday. And tonight, I'm roasting a chicken.  I feel so giddy about the prospect that autumn is around the corner that I paired patterns with stash yarn and I'm all set for my fall knitting.

I was reading to my grandson and set my knitting down next to his book and then had to take a picture. The pattern is Simple Stripes by Suvi Sumoli and the yarn is Hot Socks by Skein Cocaine. Both are perfection. The body is done, just the sleeves to go so I'll be wearing it soon.

Pente by Carol Fuller. The main color will be Loft in the newsprint color and the stripes will be white.
I know I'll love wearing this. I hope to start this soon.

As you can see I love knitting with Loft. This pattern calls for DK weight, but I can manage that with Loft. I think BT says it's a fingering weight, but not for me. Pattern alert! Tin Can Knits has the most beautiful cabled patterns that debuted today and I ended up buying the entire e-book. Check them out on Ravelry. They are mostly knit in one piece and they are all just gorgeous!

This is for a test knit that is due in mid October. I actually just finished a test so I can now start this in earnest. It's got a pretty mosaic colorwork at the yoke and for that I'm using Woolens by Barrett Wool Co. The main part will be this Bare Naked Wools Stone Soup. I love it. Gosh, I do love wool.

This Amelie from Illimani has been in my stash for ages. It's simply gorgeous and perfect for this pattern, a test for Kiddiwinks, the adult version of Twist that I have made twice before for my grandson. This test is not due until the end of October but will be a very quick knit because once I separate the sleeves from the body it is all quick stockinette.  I think I will love this one.

This is just the kind of sweater I like, a plain old V, but the color--I don't know what I was thinking! I was wanting something out of my comfort zone and this is what ended up in my cart! Gulp! My husband thinks it's a beautiful color and will be pretty on me. I'm counting on him to be right. The Daily Sweater by Purl Soho knit with Linen Quill.

My plan for this recent purchase was to make some fun houses, elves and snowmen for Christmas and while that will happen, it just may not happen this year. Woolens by Barrett Yarn Co. is made in the USA.

  1. Wonderful post as always, chock full of content. I think you were influenced by the green craze right now. In the stores I’ve noticed that the greens in any style seem to go first. It’s linen quill so it will come out beautifully, I am sure. Can’t wait to see how you will style it.

    1. Is that right? I had no idea that green was in right now but I probably have been noticing it without knowing it! Now I'm going to be more aware!

  4. I agree. I think we are subliminally affected by what’s around us. And that’s what advertisers count on. I hope I am not leading you astray, but - personally - I have been noticing more green, lately. Wanted a cute top at Old Navy (their teen-target sizing works for my shorter-than-I-used-to-be self) and there were no more greens (muted in this case) in my size, although plenty of black and terra cotta. Also last season there were a couple pf gorgeous j.jill print tops in lively greens. (I think the founder of j.jill must be a blonde because they are usually awash in blues). I’m kind of overly-analytical sometimes, so please take that into account when assessing my opinions. Chloe

    1. And now I'm noticing bright greens too, even for the winter! I guess I was seeing them and even though I didn't realize I was noticing, I must have been. Clever, aren't they?

  6. I love the green!! I, too, bought linen quill for the daily pullover in cobalt blue, to change it up in my color palette, and keep thinking, hmmm, what was I thinking?

    1. lol! I have some Shibui in cobalt blue that I'm too chicken to knit! I look at pictures of me in the 70s and 80s and I had no problem wearing brights. I am determined to knit those two brights in my stash--this year!
