green is the theme

March 11, 2022

Today our family is arriving for a long weekend and we are ready! Windows washed, beds changed, meals planned, and table set. I used green as my spring theme as a nod towards St. Patrick's Day as I'm just not quite ready to decorate for Easter.

These two black vases are new from Target.

The new faux greenery is from Pier One.

Cut flowers and leaves from the garden and green napkins from my stash.

I have a lot of windows to wash in our sunny California home, plus a greenhouse, and over the years I've tried at least a dozen ways to make the job easier while still making the windows sparkle and streak free. For at least a dozen years I've used Windex Outdoor Window Wash (this is the best price I've found anywhere) on my outside windows and patio furniture. There are other brands, and I think I've tried them all, but Windex is the best--the product goes farther, lasts longer, the dial is easy to use, and it really is streak free. To use this product you screw it into your outdoor hose and turn on water. Turn the dial to RINSE and rinse the window and sills. Do a small section of windows at a time. Put the dial to WASH and spray to wash. Rinse again. You can now leave them to dry spot free on their own. I do this with the greenhouse and if you have tall unreachable windows you may want to do this too, but my windows are easy to reach and I like to polish them by taking an old towel and wiping the sills and then wiping down the window itself. Next I take a microfiber cloth meant especially for glass and finish with a quick polish. The windows sparkle and shine, and they are streak free, and it's easy!

For inside windows I again use microfiber glass cloths and something new I just found at Target, Casabella All Purpose Spray. You purchase one bottle and thereafter use their refill pods mixed with your tap water. I love the fragrance and it was positively streak free. It was also gentle enough to use in the corners of the window panes where the dirt gathers. I use an old toothbrush to coax that gunk out. I own several different brands microfiber glass polishing cloths but the Casabella Cloths from Target might be my favorite. I ended up going back for a second pack I was so happy with them.

My family knows where I keep my snacks, but we are having one new guest and he might be wondering why everyone is walking around with handfuls of goodies and might be too shy to open cupboards. To keep the snacking fair 😁 I decanted treats into cookie jars and grandmother's canning jars and have them out in the open. Yesterday I baked five dozen cookies and two dozen brownies. We'll have no problem making them disappear.😋 Just so you won't think we eat only junk food, I have plenty of healthy snacks in the refrigerator. 😍
