My Three Favorite Letters in the Alphabet

July 18, 2012

My three favorite letters in the alphabet are undoubtedly B L and T.  Who would dare to disagree?  This may be strictly an American treat, I'm not sure, so for my foreign readers I'll clarify: bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.  This sandwich is a good time.

BLT's are a seasonal treat that we reserve for summer when the big beefsteaks come in.  My husband likes a particular brand of thick-sliced bacon and we both like a sturdy white bread toasted for this masterpiece, a dash of mayo and some crispy cold lettuce.  Add salt to that tomato, what the heck.  That's it, don't sully this gem with anything else.  I hear that some people are adding avocado, sometimes a fried egg or even worse, cheese *cringe* but I think it's perfect in it's most simple form.

This looked better and bigger in person.  Darn my wimpy photo staging ability.

The tomato was a Coustralee, a French heirloom and the first of our beefsteaks to ripen.  Flavorful and meaty, an excellent tomato.

The Cucumber Department:  I know you drop by just to see what Mzz. Knitionary is doing with her cucumbers today.  Well, I don't disappoint and am throwing much of my time and talents into creating tasty dishes with the humble and prolific cucumber as the star.  So have you ever sauteed cucumbers?  Ha!  Maybe you thought I was just making bread and pickles?  But when you saute cucumbers they retain their crunch and are really very good.  This was breakfast yesterday, sauteed peeled, seeded and diced cucumbers, poached egg and chopped tomato.  Does it look good ?, I can't tell anymore, what with my cucumber delirium, but it did taste very good.

Now let's completely change the subject.  Have you ever been subjected to bullying in the workplace?  I have and it was hell on earth.  It's been two years since I left and I still think about it, soooo scarring is bullying.  A friend sent me this excellent article, read it if you think it might pertain to your life.

We saw Savages yesterday.  Very Oliver Stone gory, I still loved it and give it high marks.

Still knitting of course.  I'll see you very soon wearing a pretty shawl.

  4. Delicious!! I love BLTs -- especially in the summer.

I was intrigued by the article you shared too . . . there have been times in my former work life when I felt bullied. I didn't know just how bad it was until I left!
