Skeppa

February 14, 2023

Hello! I have a new sweater to share today, a preview knit for Brooklyn Tweed, Skeppa by Vibe Ulrik Sondergaard. The pattern is delightful and easy to follow, as are all BT patterns. Nothing is left to chance. The yoke is made by knitting a big cluster stitch. Increases made on the following rows open up the knitted stitches that pop up from the purl background stitches. It's fun to watch the pattern emerge. It hugs the shoulders nicely and then the pattern continues down the center of the sleeve. I made the funnel neck a bit shorter and I would recommend doing that if you have an average size neck. The pattern would be equally as pretty with a crew neck which would be an easy modification. That is on my summer wish list with some pretty cotton from my stash.

I used the recommended yarn, Imbue by Brooklyn Tweed, 100% USA grown. It's fat and soft and bouncy and has a bit of tooth and for me it's soft enough to wear next to the skin. It emerged beautifully from a wash and block and even though I've worn it at least a dozen times it has not pilled. I'm a big fan and this is now my new favorite Brooklyn Tweed yarn. OK, so admittedly I do easily fall in love with yarn, but only fabulous yarn, and Imbue really is fabulous!

That's it for my quickie post today! In a few days I can post a jacket I made as a test using Brooklyn Tweed Tones. I must be on a BT kick because the sweater I'm knitting right now, another test, uses BT Peerie, and it's lovely too. I'm still on the hunt for some Rowan Denim in one of the blues, either Nashville or Memphis. I need 9 or 10, so if you or anyone you know has any to sell, I'd love to get in touch.

  1. Thank you so much about the neck mod. I have an average neck along with being short-waisted so any fitting mods that “elongate” me such as maintaining at least some neckline height (but not so much that it “smothers” me) is very welcome. The yarn soundsintriguing. Chloe

    1. The funnel neck already brushes against my wobbly neck. If I thought making it higher would hide my neck altogether I'd do it, but I'm afraid it would just illuminate the extra skin! Ugh!

  2. I messaged you on rav about a teensy bit of denim I can give you - if you're able to come up with the rest, or want to stripe to minimize dye lot issues (I have both colors), just let me know!

  5. Brooklyn Tweed has been my favorite yarn co. for years. Shelter was my introduction to woolen spun yarns. Your sweater inspires me to give Imbue a try.

    1. Oh I think you'd love Imbue! BT has new yarn coming out next month but they sent me an email this morning and offered it to me early. I think I'm going to take a plunge and try it. It's a DK and looks beautiful.

  7. Hi, I commented yesterday but don't know where it went... I had said your sweater is lovely and as usual you inspire, but clicking on the pattern, it's $12. I've noticed pattern prices increasing, but that seems over the top!
