pink tutu peonies
March 22, 2016
My pink peonies. These photos were taken today in late morning when the sun was bright and enormous clouds were rolling by--covering up the sun, then not--letting the sun either sear the petals with sunshine or moments later shading them. At once hot pink, then translucent, then pale pink an instant later. No trick photography here. No photoshop. Just the sun and the clouds doing their magic on one big beautiful tree peony. They are as big as dinner plates and always look like ballerina's tutus to me.
I'd love to hear from you. Click here to make a comment.

Absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThank you for these beautiful photos which have brightened my day. Peonies are one of favourite flowers and they won't be flowering here in the UK for a few months yet. I don't have any peonies in my small garden and always make a point of treating myself to some from the florist when they are in season.
ReplyDeleteThat is a treat to have them in the house. They are here for such a short time and I have just the one bush, so I only allow myself two or three small bouquets in the house over the short 2 week season, because I love to see them on the bush too! I have just a few more buds left, so sad!
DeletePeonies are also one my favorite flowers - maybe The favorite but how can you choose with flowers - and our generous neighbors often share them with us when they bloom in their yard. Thank you for the pictures which are a portent of things to come for us non-Californians. Kristin, I asked, belatedly, in your previous post - which did not seem to go through -how much work could be done the day before on your Shepherd's Pie. It seems perfect for an upcoming occasion that I have. Would you be willing to address that question here? Thank you. Chloe
ReplyDeleteSorry Chloe that I didn't answer your question about the Shepherd's Pie. I know you can make the entire thing the day before and refrigerate it until you bake it. Also, looking at the ingredients, this dish would be fine to put in the freezer unbaked, just defrost overnight in the fridge.
DeleteAs for favorite flowers, it is hard to choose. I think my favorite it the one that happens to be blooming at the time!
Best, Kristen
I really thought I was the only one who had that particular flight of fancy! I've always thought of my pink peony blossoms as ballerina tutus or ballgown skirts!
ReplyDeleteI had a pink tutu when I was a little girl. I loved it and have never forgotten it!
DeleteI want that plant!!! My fav. Reminds me when I was a little girl in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteThese always bring smiles, don't they, plus the beauty of the day!
My favorite flowers and yours are gorgeous. I will be over to see them.

Thank you, Kristen, for your answer to my Shepherd's Pie question! It is a big help to me. I agree about the flowers, although peonies will always have the edge as I love pink so much. (I am not much of a gardener, by the way. When things turn out well for me, which they occasionally do, it is by pure accident, I remember some pansies and some impatiens I planted that defied every effort I made to kill them.) Chloe
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see peonies I think I love them the most, but then I love roses and lilies. I guess I just love flowers! Yours are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteStunning photography Kristen!!! When I lived in the midwest during law school I had a neighbor that had rows and rows of Peony flowers. Growing up in Santa Barbara I had never seen this flower before and the impact of these gorgeous blooms and the fragrance is something I'll never forget. My neighbor would bring over armfulls of stems and my entire house would be perfumed for days. It is and will always be my favorite flower.
ReplyDeleteSo gorgeous! I think peonies are one of the most beautiful flowers in the world :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do it. They are beautiful...
ReplyDeleteYou make my day when you make a comment!
