fall refresh and wip update

October 06, 2023

A very gentle fall refresh has arrived at Casa Knitionary. Last spring I bought 6 new pillows from Etsy without realizing that six months later they would look beautiful with my autumn colors. I also didn't realize that my striped leftovers blanket would be a natural for the fall living room too. I think this is the fourth year I've used pomegranate branches, I continue to love them and they are still available here. I have both the orange and red branches. Ditto with the Target ceramic pumpkins. This is the third year Target has brought out the same exact pumpkins. I don't blame them, they are so pretty and must be very popular. I found a large selection at my Target, and online I found the rust ones on sale, and I also like these white ones, also on sale.

It's wonderful to pull these out from the fall bin. They're like old friends now. You can see the pomegranate branches here, but also check out these persimmon branches. In my neighborhood we have both trees and I can tell you, both of these faux branches look so real.

I bought these large pots from Pottery Barn 15 years ago. They were red and while I loved them, I found that I stored them away more often than I was using them. I was just going to take them to the charity shop when I decided to spray them glossy black. It only took one coat, then to give it an aged look I slopped on some watered down white paint and rubbed it off again. Happy!

Is everyone in love with sheet pan dinners?

And no clean up! I use either parchment paper or foil.

The last of our beets was made into borscht, the beauty queen of soups, for last night's dinner.

I love everything about fall--sweater weather, sweater knitting (of course), fall recipes and fall parties (I'm trying to talk myself into having a soup party). On the knitting front, I will finish my No Frills tonight and then will work on the Burberry Hat. I know several of you are interested to see if I can get the fingerless mitts and a hat out of 450 yards. Turtlepurls has 4 in stock right now. I know she often sells out of this Trenchcoat colorway but it looks like she restocks frequently.

The yarn comes in two 225 yard skeins so your socks or mitts will match exactly. After knitting the mitts I had a little more than half of the yarn leftover. Since I took this picture I have knit through the first leftover skein and going to start on the last skein this weekend. It won't take long to finish and fingers crossed I'll have enough. It will be close and I'll be sure to let you know.

No Frills is very oversized but I think I'm going to love it. Only the hem to go.

This clever blogger took some garish autumn branches and spray painted them expresso and eggplant. Aren't they gorgeous? Read about it here

Goodbye for now. I hope you have a glorious weekend!
