Chevronopolis

June 24, 2024

Good morning! Today I have a new shawl to share and a July 4th craft. This is Chevronopolis designed by the talented Maxim Cyr. Ravelry tells me I started this in January of 2023 which means I've been working on it for a year and a half. It should not have taken that long but it was a "fun" knit for me, something I did not need but instead wanted to knit for the fun of it, plus I had the yarn in my stash. I'd work on it for an evening or two, then put away for a week or two, then repeat. It's very easy to pick up after ignoring it for awhile, but make sure you note which row you are on so if you come back after a month, you can jump right in.

When I found myself on the last repeat of 64 rows I decided to buckle down and get it done. It is indeed a fun knit with all the color changes, and very easy too as the chevrons are created with slipped stitches and you work with one color per row.

During the month of June, Maxim has offered all his patterns for 20% off with the code CHOOSELOVE. If you are not familiar with Maxim, please check out his gorgeous designs here. I'm certain you'll find something to love. Next up for me will be the Stripetastic Shawl.

I thought it would be helpful for future makers to show a close up of the three borders. The first two borders are knitted in as you go, and the third photo below is knitted at the end with several rows of garter and finished with a two color i-cord bind off.

One evening last week I was invited to a girl's night out. We met at my favorite downtown Mexican restaurant, Fiesta Vallarta on the corner of State and 2nd for any locals reading this, and had a fun and chatty dinner, then walked through the courtyard to Jenny Carroll's charming art studio. For a gal like me, walking into a bonafide art and craft studio was pure magic and to say I was excited to be in such a nice setting with my girlfriends and making a craft and sipping wine is an understatement! The room bubbled with fun! Jenny did an excellent job corralling the chatty group so we could make this adorable Uncle Sam. The next time my little family of 8 comes together at the same time, and it doesn't happen all that often, I'm going to book an evening with Jen. Check out her website to see all that she has to offer.

Art With Jenny

You could easily recreate this at home as it was simply two rectangles of a thin wood that we painted and glued. It would be so fun to make with children. I told my grandson I had a craft in mind for his next visit and if he wants to make one I will cut out the pieces from cardboard.

This is what was waiting for us! Many of the women were vocally uncrafty and some might have even been a bit timid, but Jen did such a nice job guiding us through the hour. Each one of us had fun and every Uncle Sam came out so cute with each crafter's unique artistic flair. I think mine came out looking like Santa because of all the Christmas crafts I make.

I have a standing request with the bartender to save tequila corks for me and this was my haul that night! It helped that Cinco De Mayo was last month. He's so kind to do this and to thank him I'm going to drop by today with these garden flowers.
