the best of Ravelry
May 10, 2023I thought it would be fun to share my Ravelry favorites from the last few weeks. I troll Ravelry every day looking for treasures, and if you don't have the time for that, don't worry, I'll do it for you! My plan is for every few weeks to share my "best of Ravelry". I'm excited for this first edition, so let's go!

| Glastonbury by Sophie Ochera. I HAVE to make this. I don't love stranded work all that much and it's knit bottom up (sad face) but still this does look easy enough and it's just too gorgeous to pass up, plus it's knit with Brooklyn Tweed Loft, one of my favorite yarns. The pattern is a bit more expensive than other patterns, but this is a Brooklyn Tweed pattern and their reasoning for their higher prices is that they want to give their designers a fair wage. I think that's fair enough. BT patterns are always well written and come in a large range of sizes. Unisex. |

| The Xanadu Tank Top by kiddiwinksknits is a real cutie made with slipped stitches and self striping yarn paired with a solid. I've knit Jackie's patterns before and they are always well written and fun. Sized 3 mos. to 9 years. I may have to knit this for Carter for a summer vest. |

| Snow Cloud by Melanie Berg. I'm obsessed with this beauty! I didn't buy the pattern yet but I'm sure I will at some point. I've seen the yarn the pattern calls for, Cirro by The Fibre Co., and I've always been intrigued by it as it's pretty gorgeous in the skein. Melanie's patterns are always professionally written. |

| Push It Sweater by Wool and the Gang. I love the sideways construction and have some great cotton yarn in my stash that might work with this. But with garter stitch, as much as I love the texture, I do worry about it sagging. I think though that since this is supposed to be oversized, even if it did stretch out a bit it would be ok. I've only knit one, maybe two, Wool in the Gang patterns, but I think I remember they were very simplistic in writing style, as in, not loaded with details. |

| Sunanami Pullover by Ririko. Love the wavy lace pattern, and bonus, it looks pretty simple! Oversized and boxy, I think this is a nice pattern for a modern lace look. Ririko's patterns are well written. |

| Bernice has a gorgeous collection of patterns on Rav. I knit her Ren and it was a super fun knit, somewhat complicated but a great pattern to follow. Her latest one above is called Caprock and is a collaboration with Woolfolk. |

| Double Time by Libby Jonson. Perfect stripes in a cardigan! Libby's patterns are always well written and fit well. |

| The Garden Cardigan is another Brooklyn Tweed pattern, this time by the man himself, Jared Flood. The design is unisex and has a dozen sizes to choose from! Another pricey pattern from BT, this one is $16, but honestly, all the work that goes into making a pattern, the price does not exactly surprise me. If you love it, you'll happily pay for a well written pattern that includes excellent pattern support. |

| A Place of Peace by Joji Locatelli. This darling woman has created another beautiful shawl. Don't know what I love most. Is it because she chose black and white? Or maybe the stripes? Or tassels? Gah, love it all. |

| Looking for something super cool and casual? How about Campus by Stella Ackroyd. Dropped shoulders, stripes, and a vented hem makes a perfect everyday sweater. |

| The Traveler by Andrea Mowry. I swooned a bit when I saw this and bought it right away, although I don't know when I'll ever get to it. I'm a pattern junkie for real. But this hoodie is just cute cute cute with all it's boxy texture. Andrea's patterns are always a kick to make and zillions of people make them so if you have any questions at all, there's help! |

Hi Kristen, I love all of these, I even bought some already. I really think we were separated at birth, or we just have the same aesthetic! Love this new feature because I know I will love whatever you pick, and maybe you'll have something that I missed! Thanks and keep doing this--love it! Carol Perecman

I've been thinking of doing it for awhile as there are just so many good things on Ravelry that should not be missed. I just purchased Tin Can Knits Simple Sweater. I've seen it before, but they sent out an email this morning and I look at it with fresh eyes, and love that it's newborn to XXL and that it can be made in THREE weights of yarn. Yay!
DeleteThis review is fabulous. I am aware of some of these designs but it’s also introduced me to some others I hadn’t come across. It’s straight back to Ravelry to put them in my favourites. Thank you and please do this again.

DeleteHi Kristen! I’ve been having a great time as always going through your list and chasing down the rabbit holes that spring from them. The major one being The Push It sweater and the sideways construction which has always intrigued me. I seem to remember in the dark ages reading that sideways construction is less prone to sagging but now after a semi-exhaustive search I can’t find any reference to it. Do you suppose that is a legitimate claim? I also think that Carter is Made for that vest. He seems to have the ‘presence’ for it. I also almost finished the The Simple Baby Pullover by Erica Kempf which you had on your Baby/Child list a few years ago. I Loved that pattern, but once almost finished I realized the yarn fabric was far too delicate for a toddler (although the color was perfect which seduced me) so I had to frog it. She grew too fast (think Carter) to stay in the size range, but I keep it in mind for any future toddlers in my babysphere. Thank you, as always for your wonderful suggestions! They are the best. ReplyDeleteRabbit holes, isn't that the truth! I really get into trouble on Ravelry and have to be so careful! As for the garter stitch knit sideways, YES, it does make sense, doesn't it? Gravity won't let it sag sideways now will it? I have that pattern on my short list but then my short list is actually very very long!
