Full Heart Cabled Christmas Vest

November 26, 2022

Carter's new Christmas sweater morphed into a vest because I ran out of yarn. Rookie mistake! Last year I bought enough yarn for the size I thought he would be this year, factoring in enough growing, but apparently not. When I realized I wouldn't have enough yarn I decided to make a vest instead. It's very easy to adapt a child's sweater to a vest--just pick up the stitches as you would for the sleeve but go immediately into ribbing. This sweater was meant to have a modified drop sleeve so I added a few more decreases to each sleeve opening to give a more traditional arm opening shape. I've made this pattern before and really love the cable motif.

Like most cable patterns it's intuitive and after the first or second repeat you'll only have to glance at the pattern. The cable pattern is also on the back. It's a lovely, well written pattern that I think you'd enjoy knitting for a special little someone in your life. It calls for worsted weight yarn and I used Malabrigo Rios in Ravelry Red. This is a great yarn for kids as it's superwash extra soft merino, and the best thing is my little guy loves his new red vest. He grabbed last year's Christmas hat and his Lovey before we walked out the door for the photo shoot. So sweet! The pattern is sized from ages 6 months to 10 years.

Right NOW Rowan is having a Black Friday sale on some great yarn.
50% off Pure Cashmere, Island Blend Fine and Moordale
and 40% off Merino Aria, Peble Island and Island Blend Fine.
The sale includes FREE shipping. I don't know how long it lasts.
I'm heading over there now because that is some serious savings!

Have you started decorating for Christmas yet? I put most of mine up yesterday, but today I'm still looking at it, moving things around, editing and putting together a giveaway box of things I don't plan to use again.  And on the subject of giveaways, I have one coming up and you are going to love love love it! I'm so excited so stay tuned!
