Good morning friends. We pulled out Carter’s sweaters from last year and no surprise that he has outgrown them all. Time for Grammy to knit in earnest and I have so many cute sweaters and vests planned for the next month, I can’t wait to show them to you. This morning I have a new pattern to share from Lisa Chemery of Frogginette Knits who specializes in children's knitwear patterns. Crozon is sized from 3 mos. to 16 yrs. and knits up quickly in worsted weight yarn. It's a lovely pattern with great details such as short row shaping for raising the back neck and different raglan increase rates to improve fit, plus you will LOVE Lisa's technique for jogless stripes. Crozon is a basic pattern that deserves a spot in your library. So many possibilities, plus I LOVE that she graded so many sizes! I intend to use it many, many times for my grandson and he loves his two new sweaters. I made the size 6 for my 4 year old grandson. When knitting for a child, rather than choosing size by age, instead look at the finished chest measurement. Measure your child's chest, add the amount of positive ease you would like, then choose. I knit both with a tiny bit of growing room, but actually I could have added more, but since is knit top down, it will be easy to add length to cuffs and hems as needed.

For his black and white sweater I used Rowan Cotton Cashmere which is absolutely fabulous to use for children. It knits up beautifully, is very soft and can even be machine washed and dried (not according to the manufacturer, but I've done it with cold gentle wash and low heat tumble dry and it was fine) but of course the fabric will look better longer if hand washed. Cotton Cashmere is a gorgeous yarn comprised of 85%  cotton and 15% cashmere. It has a wonderfully soft suede-like feel when knitting and while wearing. It's a gorgeous yarn. I like this yarn knit at 18 sts. to 20 sts. per 4 inches and can achieve either depending on my needle size.

The multicolored sweater is knit with a main color of off-white Big Bad Wool Weepaca, a high quality yarn made with a 50/50 blend of merino and alpaca. I loved knitting with it. The multi color stripes are scraps of fingering weight yarn held double. Don't forget, doubling fingering weight yarn equals a worsted weight and doubling a lace weight yarn equals a DK weight, but make sure you swatch!
