I love when cables are placed within the raglan. This pattern comes from an older knitting book (2011), and I remember thinking it was the first time I’d seen raglan cables. Since then, they’ve become quite popular—and they’re still stunning. I donated most of my knitting books and magazines over the years, but I kept this one because I knew I wanted to make this pattern again. My first version was in 2012—13 years ago! Back then, I tended to make my sweaters more form-fitting, so I’m sure I did waist shaping decreases. I also knit my sweaters longer, which I think was the style at the time. Following the pattern exactly would have made this sweater quite a bit longer.

It’s knit top-down, but you pick up stitches at the end for the neck, which I did, though it would be easy to start with the ribbed neckband instead.

The yarn is simply dreamy! This is Quince Chickadee—a charming, plump, and easy-going yarn. The stitches line up like little soldiers, and the fabric is so soft that I imagine most anyone could wear it next to their skin. It’s hand wash and holds up beautifully; I’ve used it before with minimal pilling. Honestly, I think this is one of the best sport wools on the market—so many colors, a great value, and incredibly wearable. I’m a fan for sure! I even have enough in gray for another cable sweater.

Quince and Co. Chickadee (Mystic Violet)

2012 version

My second Christmas stocking is drying right now, and next week I plan to write a simple tutorial on how I line stockings. I’ve got one sweater on the needles at the moment, and once that’s finished, I think I’ll turn my attention to some Christmas projects.

I also just received Barrett & Co.’s Good Tidings box, see their photos below, which I ordered back in the spring—and I love it! What was inside the box itself was a surprise, but I always adore their designs, colors, and yarn selections, so I had no doubt I’d enjoy this one too. For this box, rather than using their own gorgeous yarns, they’re featuring a Shetland wool from Harrisville Designs, and it feels lovely. The project is ambitious: 24 advent cones and 24 toys. I will not be finishing it this year, lol—but it’s going to be so much fun to work on over time! 2026 completion is my goal.
