casting on today

Do you ever download a pattern or purchase some yarn or cast on for a new project or all of the above and wonder, "What on earth am I doing?" Well, this is me today. I've signed up for Joji Locatelli's fall KAL with not one, but two projects. But rather than feeling overwhelmed by these two new additions and the numerous works-in-progress I already have scattered about, I instead choose to feel like I'm a very lucky knitter. Here's why:

| I haven't tried Tracie Too from Imperial Yarns yet, but it seems lovely in the skein and I've always wanted to knit a Boxy. |

| So why not knit two Boxies? LOVE Hemp Tweed. The KAL starts today. I think there's something like 1000-plus knitters who signed up. Did you? |

| I'm halfway through Mila from Kim Hargreaves Smolder with Rowan's new Valley Tweed. Divine. |

| It was such a pretty day that after blocking the back, I decided to sit down next to it and cast on for the front and started listening to my audiobook, Breakfast at Tiffany's. As often as I've seen the Audrey Hepburn movie I've never read the book. Like my knitting projects, I have so many audiobooks and print books in my queue, I guess I'll just have to live to be 100. |

| I cannot tell you how much I love working with A Verb for Keeping Warm's, Flock. I can't wait to finish and write up a yarn review. The color is not accurate in either picture; imagine a shade in-between. Just the second sleeve to go! |

| And then there's this lovely Clara Yarn of which I only ordered 4 skeins, NOT ENOUGH for a sweater and that's what I want to make, not a vest, not a shawl, but a sweater. I don't know why I only ordered four. I definitely needed one more skein and when Clara offered it again, it naturally sold out in minutes and I was too late jumping in. But wait, perhaps all is not lost. Look at the Valley Tweed next to it! It's perfect, right? I think I can use it for the collar, hem and cuffs and I'll be OK! Big sigh. I'm not sure, but thinking this will become a beautiful Audrey in Unst (made it before and love it) or a Larimar. Excited about the possibilities and also about trying out this lovely yarn. |
There are many fine places where you can donate money to help the Harvey victims, but I'd like to share my preferred charitable organization. Samaritan's Purse is a Christian run American organization that helps people in crisis areas all over the world. They always get top marks from the charity watchdogs and while we've donated to them for years, they do not bombard you with excessive mail, but instead send a gentle email reminder when funds are needed for a particular crisis. Over the years I have witnessed this fine organization help in crisis areas all over the world and am very happy to be able to share them with you.

Thank you for mentioning Samaritan's Purse. They are a very special organization that is close to my heart too! It's nice to know we have one more thing in common! (Besides knitting)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you know and love them too. I met Franklin Graham years ago when we were teenagers. His dad ( Billy Graham) had an association somehow with out church and he would attend every blue moon or so. We girls all thought Franklin was so cute and kind of a rascal. It's nice to see him follow his father's footsteps and make a positive impact on the most helpless people over the world.

ReplyDeleteYes, knitting is such a respite for all the days woes. I don't think I've ever relied in a hobby so much as I rely on knitting to calm me.
Delete100 sounds like a nice round number. We'll all need it, too, just to see all your gorgeous FOs. I've had a soft spot in my heart for Joji Locatelli ever since I had so much fun making Felipe. That V-Neck Boxy....hmm. The perfect "vee." Chloe
