Campside Shawl, free pattern

This was a great travel knit: easy pattern and a well-behaved yarn. When traveling, often enough I'll cast on for a manageable pattern only to use a yarn that needs some tending. When I'm preoccupied with travel, I want my project to be entirely mindless--easy pattern and a mannerly yarn. The patterns calls for DK weight, but I imagine gauge doesn't matter much and you could easily modify this to make any size, however I followed the pattern to the letter. I used the great Rowan Softyak DK which I have completely fallen in love with and have praised often enough on this blog. The pattern is free from Alicia Plummer and matches her Campside Pullover and Cardigan. The pattern has written and charted instructions. Keep a row counter handy because you will need to count rows and glance at the pattern occasionally, but once you get rolling on a section and are keeping track of your rows, you are set for hours of knitting bliss.
I have a question, what is your favorite travel knit pattern? I'm always looking for new ideas, but something other than socks--I rarely knit socks! I'd love to hear from you...here!

First, gorgeous shawl; it looks like it just flows through your fingers and the color is to die for. I don't have much skill in the keeping track-department so I would have to keep this as an at-home project. For travel I live with cold winters so it would be hats. Lightweight, fit in your purse, you can make them as easy or hard as you want because it is a relatively small commitment and people are always losing them, so you always have a 'customer'. I could go on and on about hats, the variety of construction, opportunity for colorwork, etc. but even a simple watch cap can enchant me. And they are great for charity knitting. Chloe
ReplyDeleteYes, yes, hats! Of course! I don't wear knitted hats so don't often make them, but I just made a few for my little grandson and they would make perfect travel projects.

DeleteI think the Dotted Rays pattern from Westknits is a good one. He has a lot of variations now with stripes and a faded version too. I have knit several and think you would like it too.
