US Open Knitting Challenge, join me!

September 06, 2011

I've created a knitting challenge to go along with all the tennis watching I'm doing.  My hope is to finish some works-in-progress once and for all and most importantly not start anything new until the following are done:

Some are recent put-a-ways like this Cranberry Cape.  I love the pattern and yarn so won't have a problem finishing this.  Progress:  70% done.  Deadline: before FALL!

Favorite Cardigan was a birthday gift for daughter, now will be a Christmas gift!  Progress, also about 70% done.  Yarn is Cascade Sierra.
A very ancient wip is this Kelly Cardigan made of Kidsilk Night in pale pink.   Progress:  95% done, just finishing!  Deadline:  Before US Open is over.
A Noro Striped Scarf, with progress at about 75% and deadline before the tennis is over.

A gift for my son, Emilien is about 60% done, if I don't have to rip out again.  This has taken me a long time to finish as I have been having lots of size problems.  I think the one sleeve I have finished may have to be redone as it seems too large.  Deadline is Oct. 23.

Owl hat and mitten set for granddaughter.  Not started, but deadline is also Oct. 23.

I may need to cheat a tiny bit on my challenge and make these adorable acorns before I have all the above knitting finished.  This is the only cheating I will allow.  Because I know I won't be able to help
myself!

Edited to add:
The designer published the acorn pattern in German only, I have translated it to English here for you.

Cast on 16 STS
Round 1 to 5: knit
Round 6: (K2tog, K2) 4 x, 12 STS.
Round 7: knit
Round 8: (K2tog, K1) 4 x, 8 STS.
Thread yarn through 8 live stitches and fasten from inside.
Stuff and sew up top, then glue on an acorn top.

The original pattern with photo tutorial is found here:

I have two other wip's that I don't want to mention as I may just rip them out, they have been on the needles so long and I think I've lost interest.  Plus I have a granny square blanket, but I'm not counting that!

Also, I have a scarf and a shawl that I keep near the door for grabbing a project on the go, doesn't count in my challenge either.  See how I make up my own rules?  And if you join me in this tennis challenge, you can also make up your own rules.

And now for other stuff:  My house is an absolute mess, but think the workmen will be out by Friday.  Lots more house things to get done after that, but at least I'll be able to clean up the dust.  We're very happy so far, it's pretty and fresh and bright.

I only have a gusset and sleeve left to do! There's also a summer PJ set (top is done, shorts are about 20% done). After getting those done, my reward will be to do this
